Arrival TO site
- Ensure you SIGN IN at Security
- Do not give neighbours opposite the entrance to the property any reason to complain to the MKN/HSA or DCC
- No Smoking or vaping in any of the site buildings
- Canteen & Drying Room are located on GF of Block A
Location & Parking
- There is NO on-site parking – please respect local residences and do not block access to their properties
- Toilets are located on the plinth at Block C – Base of crane
- Site open Mon – Thurs 07:00 – 17:00 and 07:00 – 16:00 Friday
First aid supplies
- First Aid stocks are kept in the foreman’s office
Accidents
The assembly point is the main gate
- All accidents, no matter how small, should be reported to MKN site management
- Emergency contact numbers are placed in the canteen, site office, drying room, toilets

Fire
- Fire extinguishers are distributed throughout the site
- Hot/roof work requires a permit and approval from the site engineer/foreman
- Make a note of your nearest device
- Assess the area of flammable materials
- Confirm with MKN management before starting any HOT-WORK
- THINK before you act
Equipment & Machinery
- ScaffHire manages all scaffolding requirements
- It is illegal to interfere with the scaffolding of the site without a CSCS ticket/MKN approval
- Use 110V or battery equipment
- Make sure you are not working under loads being lifted; precast panels or pumping concrete
- Pay attention to the overhead crane loads
- Make sure that the ladders are securely tied off and all work equipment is in good condition; extension cables are intact
- Before digging, check the drawings
- Only CSCS-approved operators can operate site machinery – ensure the beacon is operational and certified
- Make yourself visible to all machine drivers
Safe System of Work Plan (SSWP)
The main purpose of SSWP is to identify the main risks associated with your professional activity and to provide adequate controls before starting work.
The Safe Work System Plan (SSWP) complements the safety statement required by the Workplace Safety, Health and Well-being Act 2005.
Trenches
- There will be open trenches and excavation on site for drainage, foundations and the basement slab, do not enter them unless it is safe to do so
In case of fire
- Try to extinguish only when it is safe to do so
- You are not expected to be a firefighter
- Raise the alarm and assemble at the front gate
P.P.E
- Protective helmet, shoes, high vests and gloves are mandatory on site
- Make sure the clothing is tightly fitted
P.P.E2 provided by your own company
- Eye protection

- Screens/work barriers will be provided by your own company
- Make sure you wear PPE specific to the task

each of us is responsible for our own health and safety at work, so we ask you to follow the rules of the site and use common sense when conducting work on site.
If it is not safe, do not continue; consult with the management of MKN.
- I agree to work within Environmental Health & Safety Policy, complete daily paperwork any work supporting Risk Assessment Method Statements.
- I understand the site entry conditions for securing safety, the PPE requirements on site and my duty of care to myself and others who may be affected by my acts or omissions at work on site. I will report any issue / concern to site management.
- I agree to work to the Safe System of Work detailed in the Method Statement and to notify management of any concerns.
- I understand necessary PPE and the equipment that is necessary for work. I shall wear/ use these items in accordance with the company’s safety requirements. I will not use / text / take photos on my mobile phone when actively working on site. I will stand down in a safe area before answering my phone and limit its use while at work.
- I have completed a recognised Manual Handling Course. I will use mechanical means where possible or get assistance as required. I will not lift or carry difficult or excessive weights based on my assessment of the load and my physical capability to lift in a safe manner.
- I will assist in ensuring access routes and cross-over points are followed during our work on site.
- I AM AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- The Employers and Employees duties under the Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005.
- General site-specific hazards (i.e., underground / overhead services, excavations, traffic and pedestrian routes)
- The SITE MANAGERS / SAFETY CONTACTS / FIRST AIDERS and their role on site.
- The Site Emergency Plan and Procedures, the Emergency Contacts, location of firefighting equipment and assembly points.
- Fire precautions, smoking restrictions, no smoking areas, site assembly point and basic use of fire extinguishers.
- That the abuse of firefighting equipment, emergency procedures will be considered misconduct.
- Where to obtain medical assistance, the need to report all incidents or accidents immediately to site management for insertion in the accident book followed up by a detailed accident report from my employer within 24 hours.
- The location of the welfare facilities, the requirement to treat facilities with respect & social distancing measures.
- That each person on site is responsible for their own safety and that of others around you by working safely.
- There is a disciplinary procedure in use consisting of two verbal warnings and a final written warning which will go to my HQ.
- That I will not be allowed on site if I am under the influence of alcohol or drugs that may affect my ability to work safely. I will not attempt to enter site knowing myself to be so affected in any way that will affect my performance.
- Private vehicles are not allowed on the work site and management will not be responsible for any potential damage arising from unauthorised parking in any area of the site where machinery are operating.
- Site Signage must be read, understood and followed, e.g., Speed limit signs, PPE, Scaffolding, Pedestrian routes etc.
- Statutory inspections on plant and equipment (i.e. GA2’s, GA3’s, AF3’s) must be completed by competent persons. All chains, ropes, slings, block and tackle etc., must also be certified on a 6-monthly basis.
- Some activities may require a “RAMS / SPA” or a Permit to Work, including for works in close proximity and my management must explain all the documentation in a manner & means appropriate to me before commencing any work on site. I will not sign if unsure and get further instructions. If the job changes a revision will be required.
- We use the HSA’s “Dignity at Work” charter in relation to preventing bullying, violence and intimidation in the workplace.
- I will undertake all the precautions necessary to prevent incidents and injuries due to any task I am undertaking by attending fit for work, working safely and sensibly, and by not putting myself in a position where I could fall when working from a height or where materials could fall on others. I will follow and maintain any access routes during my work activities on site.
- I will not enter this site without a current Safe Pass card, or operate any vehicle for which I have not been issued with a CSCS card or use any new work equipment unless my employer has completed basic documented instructions on site.
- I will not interfere with or alter any scaffolding, edge protection or other items which could result in injury to myself or others on site. If materials are in the way of my work progress, I will ask for site management assistance before starting.
- I will assist my employer in every way possible by following the site procedures and by being sensible in my actions.
